FORGET THE SPRAY – 9 PLANTS THAT NATURALLY KEEP MOSQUITOS AWAY
There’s nothing more annoying than mosquitoes when you’re trying to enjoy nature. Of course, they are part of the same nature, but the itching caused by their bite is not exactly pleasant. There are many anti-mosquito solutions on the market which are usually ineffective, which is why we recommend the following natural remedies to keep the mosquitoes away.
- Catnip
Besides giving cats a natural high, catnip is a great natural repellent, and according to a study, it is 10 times more effective against mosquitoes than DEET! However, if you’re planting it in your garden, make sure you keep its distance from other plants so cats don’t trample your garden.
- Lemon thyme
Ontario’s University of Guelph says that applying crushed lemon thyme leaves on your skin can reduce mosquito bites by 62%, which can be a great solution when on a picnic.
- Lavender
Lavender has calming effects which can relieve stress, anxiety, indigestion, nausea, minor skin burns, breathing problems, pain and skin blemishes. The plant can also keep mosquitoes away from the leaves of your other plants as well, making it a great natural repellent.
- Basil
Basil is a wonderful plant to have in your kitchen and garden as well. Cinnamon basil is considered as the best mosquito repellent, so get some and get rid of the pests for good.
- Lemon balm
Lemon balm is surely nice to keep around – it has amazing healing properties and can keep mosquitoes at bay. You can use the plant for treatment of PMS, cramps, digestive and sleeping problems as well. However, lemon balm can be somewhat aggressive and may try to take over your garden, so make sure you’re keeping it confined to an area or a pot.
